Let’s get to know each other

Welcome, My name is Amy Stevens.

I’m a portrait photographer based on Folly Beach, just outside Charleston, where I’ve lived since 2011.

With over a decade of professional experience, formal training in commercial photography, and a background in teaching, I bring both technical skill and an intuitive, people-focused approach to creating natural, refined portraits along the coast.

A little more about my background and how I approach my work:

I began photographing professionally in 2010 and later returned to school to study commercial photography at Trident Technical College, where I earned an Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Graphics for Photography.

Before becoming a full-time photographer, I spent years teaching high school English, theatre, and photography, along with early childhood education in a Montessori setting. That experience continues to shape how I work with people today.

I’m naturally outgoing and attentive, and I’m comfortable working with all ages—from young children to teenagers to adults who may not love being in front of a camera. Sessions are gently guided without feeling overly posed, allowing people to relax, interact, and move naturally while I observe, direct when needed, and capture what unfolds.

Living just a mile from Folly Beach, I spend a great deal of time working along the coast and throughout Charleston. That familiarity allows me to anticipate how light, wind, and timing will affect a session and make thoughtful decisions that help everything come together smoothly.

Why clients choose to work with me:

Choosing the right location

I help you select a location that fits your group and the look you’re drawn to—whether that’s an open stretch of Folly Beach or a quieter, more classic Charleston setting.

Experience you can rely on

Photographing professionally since 2010, with formal training in commercial photography, I bring consistency, technical precision, and a practiced eye to every session.

An approach that feels natural

With a background in teaching, I guide sessions in a way that feels comfortable and engaging, helping people settle in without over-directing or forcing moments.

A cohesive final gallery

Each session is photographed with intention, resulting in a set of images that feel connected, natural, and thoughtfully composed.

What this means for your session:

I offer portrait sessions on Folly Beach and throughout Charleston, including family photography, couples and proposal sessions, graduate portraits, and individual and branding sessions. Many of my clients are visiting the area and want to document their time along the coast, while others are local to Charleston and looking for portraits that feel natural and well-composed in a setting that reflects where they live.

If you’re looking for a photographer who brings experience, attention to detail, and a thoughtful approach to each session, I’d love to work together.
